Downtown Retail Attraction Project

The Edmonton Downtown Business Association (that’s us!) wanted to help attract retail businesses to the core. Without a large customer base ready to shop, it’s hard for retailers to be encouraged to set up shop. Without plenty of attractive shopping options, it’s hard for consumers to be encouraged to shop. You see the dilemma.

The Downtown Retail Attraction Project (PDF) offered an incentive for retailers to expand into the downtown area to increase vibrancy and provide services to meet the demands of upcoming residential growth. Six businesses received financing to reward their long-term commitment to downtown to help with initializing, marketing, operating, and supporting their business to lead the downtown recovery effort.
